Pakleni Islands (Škoji): How to Plan the Perfect Day Trip from Hvar
Just across the bay from Hvar Town lie the Pakleni Islands, known to locals simply as Škoji. With crystal clear water, hidden coves, pine forests and excellent waterfront restaurants, they're one of the best day trips on the island.
Although they're only a short boat ride away, timing makes all the difference. Here's how we'd plan the perfect day for our own guests.
Start Early
Water taxis begin operating from Hvar Town early in the morning, but queues quickly build up during the summer.
An earlier departure means calmer water, quieter beaches and a much more relaxed start to the day.
Many visitors begin with:
- Jerolim, famous for its peaceful swimming spots
- Stipanska, perfect for an early morning swim
- Palmižana, ideal for lunch, walking and spending the afternoon
The secret isn't choosing the "right" island. It's getting there before the biggest crowds arrive.
Where to Eat on the Pakleni Islands
Palmižana is the culinary heart of the Pakleni Islands. Hidden behind the marina are several excellent restaurants surrounded by pine trees, offering a much quieter atmosphere than the waterfront.
If you're visiting during July or August, booking a table in advance is always worthwhile, as the most popular restaurants fill up quickly.
Returning to Hvar Town
Most visitors head back to Hvar in the late afternoon, just as the evening light begins to illuminate the old town and waterfront.
Arriving around sunset gives you plenty of time for a stroll along the promenade, a drink by the sea or dinner in Hvar Town.
If you'd rather stay longer on the islands and avoid worrying about the last water taxi, we can arrange your return whenever you're ready.
Enjoy the Islands Without the Stress
The perfect day on the Pakleni Islands is surprisingly simple: an early swim, a relaxed lunch in Palmižana, another dip in the sea and an easy return to Hvar before dinner.
If you'd rather not worry about logistics, we're happy to help organise your day, from your transfer to the harbour and advice on water taxis to restaurant recommendations and your journey back to your accommodation.
